13th annual Bakersfield Car Club Council Super Cruise

Sat., February 7, 2009
Kern County Fairgrounds (in conjunction with the Central Valley Sportsman and RV Show)

This year’s event started out with uncertain weather.  The early morning hours were foggy but the participants were eagerly waiting at the parking lot of the old Furniture City on Gilmore Ave. before 8am rolled around.

Participants first checked in and those pre-registered got their goodie bags and were given their route instructions to go on the Poker Run that would take them around town visiting several local retirement homes and then they would end up at the Kern County Fairgrounds by 10am when the Car Show portion of the event started.

We had over 150 entrants this year and the event brought in over $10,000 that will be given to the Society for Disabled Children of Kern County.  The official check presentation will take place at the April 13th Bakersfield Car Club Council meeting which starts at 6:30pm and is located at the Automobile Club of Southern California (1500 Commercial Way) meeting room.  Patricia Henson, Director for the Society for Disabled Children will be there soon after 7pm for the presentation.

The Bakersfield Car Club Council has donated well over $135,000 to the Society over the years the Super Cruise event has taken place.  The Super Cruise event was started for the purpose of helping the Society for Disabled Children.  Each year’s donation goes straight to their annual Camp Blue Jay summer camp that takes place two weeks in July up at Tehachapi Mountain Park.  This camp allows children with disabilities a week away from family and gives them an experience they will never forget!

This year’s event was dedicated to Allyn Harrington who formerly was the Director of the Society for Disabled Children of Kern County (1987-2008).  Allyn had to step down from this position recently due to health problems.  We at the BCCC miss her and are keeping her in our prayers.

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2009 Super Cruise event!!
